Job Description
As an Engine Fitter in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to perform maintenance, repair, and installation tasks on various engine components and systems on board a vessel. You will work closely with the engineering team to ensure the smooth operation and reliability of the vessel’s engines. Here is a detailed job description for the position of Engine Fitter in the Engine section:
1. Maintenance and Repair:
– Conduct routine inspections and maintenance tasks on engine components, including pumps, valves, pistons, crankshafts, bearings, and fuel systems.
– Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the optimal functioning of engine systems.
– Identify and troubleshoot mechanical issues, such as leaks, abnormal vibrations, or malfunctions.
– Carry out repairs and replacements of faulty or worn-out engine parts.
– Use precision measuring instruments to check and adjust clearances and alignments of engine components.
2. Installation and Assembly:
– Assist in the installation and assembly of new engine components and systems.
– Follow technical manuals, diagrams, and instructions to ensure proper installation.
– Collaborate with other team members to complete installation tasks efficiently and safely.
3. Testing and Calibration:
– Perform testing and calibration of engine components and systems, such as fuel injectors, turbochargers, and cooling systems.
– Ensure that engine parameters, such as fuel consumption, temperature, and pressure, are within the specified range.
– Use specialized tools and equipment to carry out testing and calibration procedures accurately.
4. Documentation and Reporting:

Requirements:
– Previous experience as an Engine Fitter or in a similar role in the maritime industry is preferred.
– Knowledge of engine components, systems, and their operation, such as diesel engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment.
– Familiarity with engine maintenance and repair techniques.
– Understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance standards in the maritime industry.
– Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and engineering drawings.
– Basic mechanical aptitude and proficiency in using hand tools and measuring instruments.
