Job Description

As a 4th Engineer NCV (Non-Conventional Vessel) in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of the engine and auxiliary systems on board non-conventional vessels. You will work under the guidance of senior engineering officers to ensure the smooth functioning of the vessel’s engine room. Here is a detailed job description for the position of 4th Engineer NCV in the Engine section:

1. Assisting with Engine Room Operations:
– Assist the senior engineering officers in the operation and control of the vessel’s main engines, auxiliary engines, and associated systems.
– Monitor and record operating parameters such as temperature, pressure, and fuel consumption.
– Perform routine checks and inspections of engine room equipment, reporting any abnormalities to senior officers.
– Maintain a clean and organized engine room environment.

2. Maintenance and Repair Tasks:
– Support senior engineering officers in conducting maintenance and repair tasks on engine systems and equipment.
– Carry out routine servicing, lubrication, and greasing of machinery and equipment.
– Assist in the inspection and testing of machinery, identifying and addressing any issues or malfunctions.
– Participate in planned maintenance activities as per the vessel’s maintenance schedule.

3. Safety and Compliance:
– Adhere to safety procedures, regulations, and industry standards in the engine room.
– Follow safety protocols during maintenance and repair activities, ensuring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
– Participate in safety drills and emergency response training.
– Contribute to the maintenance of a safe working environment and the prevention of accidents or incidents.

4. Documentation and Reporting:
– Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including work performed and spare parts used.
– Assist in the preparation of maintenance reports, equipment condition reports, and any other relevant documentation.
– Communicate any issues or concerns to senior engineering officers and provide input for equipment or spare parts requisitions.

5. Training and Development:
– Actively participate in onboard training programs and courses to enhance technical knowledge and skills.
– Seek guidance from senior engineering officers to further develop expertise in engine systems and operations.
– Stay updated with new technologies, industry trends, and advancements in marine engineering.

6. Collaboration and Communication:
– Work closely and cooperatively with other members of the engine room team and other departments.
– Communicate effectively with senior engineering officers and report any issues or observations promptly.
– Support a positive and productive working environment through teamwork and effective communication.

Requirements:
– Certificate of Competency (COC) as 4th Engineer (NCV) issued by the relevant maritime authority.
– Relevant sea time experience as an engineer on non-conventional vessels.
– Basic knowledge of engine systems, auxiliary equipment, and associated systems.
– Familiarity with maintenance procedures and basic troubleshooting techniques.
– Understanding of safety procedures and regulations in the marine industry.
