Job Description
As a Cargo Engineer in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to oversee the safe and efficient operation of cargo-related machinery and equipment on board the vessel. You will work closely with the Chief Engineer and other engineering personnel to ensure the proper handling, stowage, and discharge of cargo. 1. Operation and Maintenance of Cargo Systems:
– Operate and monitor cargo machinery and equipment, including cargo pumps, compressors, heaters, and tank cleaning systems.
– Ensure proper handling, stowage, and securing of cargo in accordance with regulations and safety guidelines.
– Conduct routine checks on cargo systems to ensure proper functioning and performance.
– Monitor cargo levels, temperatures, pressures, and flow rates as per operational requirements.
2. Cargo Handling and Stowage:
– Collaborate with the deck department to plan and execute cargo loading and discharge operations.
– Oversee the stowage of cargo in accordance with stability and weight distribution requirements.
– Monitor cargo operations to ensure compliance with cargo handling procedures and safety protocols.
– Coordinate with shore personnel, surveyors, and port authorities for cargo-related matters.
3. Repairs and Troubleshooting:
– Identify and diagnose faults or malfunctions in cargo systems and associated equipment.
– Carry out repairs, replacements, or adjustments to faulty components or systems.
– Collaborate with the engineering team to troubleshoot and rectify cargo-related issues.
– Coordinate with external contractors or suppliers for specialized repairs or spare parts procurement.
4. Preventive Maintenance:
– Develop and implement a preventive maintenance program for cargo systems and equipment.

7. Training and Development:
– Stay updated with the latest technologies and industry best practices in cargo handling and stowage.
