As a Reefer Mechanic in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems on board a vessel. You will work closely with the engineering team to ensure the proper functioning of reefer units used for the storage and transport of temperature-sensitive cargo. Here is a detailed job description for the position of Reefer Mechanic in the Engine section:

1. Reefer Unit Operation:
– Operate and monitor refrigeration units and systems used for temperature-controlled storage and transport of cargo.
– Set and adjust temperature and humidity levels based on cargo requirements.
– Monitor and control refrigerant levels, pressures, and flow rates.
– Perform routine checks and tests on reefer units to ensure optimal performance.

2. Maintenance and Inspection:
– Conduct routine inspections of reefer units to check for any signs of wear, leaks, or malfunctions.
– Perform preventive maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and greasing refrigeration components.
– Monitor and maintain proper alignment and integrity of refrigeration system components.
– Conduct periodic tests and checks on refrigeration safety devices and alarms.
– Carry out maintenance tasks according to the vessel’s maintenance schedule.

3. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
– Troubleshoot and diagnose refrigeration system problems, such as inadequate cooling, abnormal noises, or malfunctions.
– Undertake necessary repairs or replacements of refrigeration components, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and valves.
– Coordinate with the engineering team to resolve complex refrigeration issues or to arrange for specialized repairs if needed.

Requirements:
– Previous experience as a Reefer Mechanic or in a similar role in the maritime industry is preferred.
