As an Electrical Officer in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to oversee the electrical systems and equipment on board a vessel. You will work closely with the engineering team to ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, and control. Here is a detailed job description for the position of Electrical Officer in the Engine section:

1. Electrical System Management:
– Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment on board the vessel.
– Monitor and control power generation, distribution, and electrical loads to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
– Conduct regular inspections and tests of electrical systems, identifying and rectifying any faults or malfunctions.
– Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and standards.

2. Power Generation and Distribution:
– Manage the operation and maintenance of power generation systems, including generators, switchboards, and distribution panels.
– Monitor and control electrical loads to maintain a balanced power distribution throughout the vessel.
– Perform routine checks and tests on power distribution equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and cables.

3. Electrical Maintenance and Repairs:
– Conduct planned maintenance activities for electrical systems and equipment as per the vessel’s maintenance schedule.
– Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults, and undertake necessary repairs or replacements.
– Coordinate with the engineering team to ensure timely completion of electrical maintenance and repair tasks.
– Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment condition, and spare parts inventory.

4. Safety and Emergency Preparedness:
– Implement and enforce electrical safety procedures to prevent accidents or electrical hazards.
– Participate in safety drills and emergency response training, ensuring readiness to handle electrical-related emergencies.
– Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems to identify potential safety risks and address them promptly.

5. Documentation and Reporting:
– Prepare technical reports, including electrical equipment condition reports and incident reports.
– Maintain up-to-date electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation.
– Assist in maintaining inventory and ordering spare parts for electrical systems.
– Provide input for electrical-related budgeting and planning activities.

6. Training and Development:
– Stay updated with the latest electrical regulations, industry standards, and advancements in electrical engineering.

7. Collaboration and Communication:
– Collaborate effectively with other departments, such as deck officers and shore personnel, to ensure seamless operations.

Requirements:
– Relevant educational qualifications in electrical engineering or a related field.
– Electrical Officer Certificate or Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) Certificate, as required by the vessel’s flag state and regulations.
– Experience working with electrical systems on board vessels, preferably in the marine industry.
– Knowledge of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, control, and automation.
– Familiarity with electrical safety regulations, standards, and practices.
– Proficient in electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair techniques.
– Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
