Job Description

As a 2nd Engineer NCV (Non-Conventional Vessel) in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to assist the Chief Engineer in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the engine and propulsion systems on board non-conventional vessels. You will work closely with the engineering team to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the vessel’s engine room. Here is a detailed job description for the position of 2nd Engineer NCV in the Engine section:

1. Engine Room Operations:
– Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing the operation and control of the vessel’s main engines, auxiliary engines, and propulsion systems.
– Monitor and optimize fuel consumption, lubrication, and cooling systems for efficient and reliable operation.
– Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment such as pumps, compressors, generators, and purifiers.
– Perform regular checks and inspections of engine room equipment to identify any abnormalities or faults.

2. Maintenance and Repairs:
– Assist in conducting routine maintenance and repairs of engine systems, including mechanical and electrical components.
– Assist in troubleshooting and rectifying faults and malfunctions in engine systems and equipment.
– Carry out planned maintenance tasks as per the vessel’s maintenance schedule.
– Coordinate with the engineering team to ensure timely completion of maintenance and repair tasks.

3. Safety and Compliance:
– Comply with safety procedures, regulations, and industry standards while working in the engine room.
– Participate in safety drills and ensure the adherence to safety protocols.
– Assist in conducting regular inspections and tests to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
– Adhere to environmental regulations and procedures, including waste management and pollution prevention.

4. Documentation and Reporting:
– Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory.
– Assist in preparing reports on maintenance and repair work, equipment condition, and compliance status.
– Update technical documentation, drawings, and manuals to reflect modifications or upgrades.
– Assist in maintaining inventory and ordering spare parts as required.

5. Training and Development:
– Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills related to non-conventional vessel engine systems.
– Assist in providing guidance and training to junior engineering staff.
– Stay updated with the latest technologies, industry trends, and advancements in marine engineering.

6. Collaboration and Communication:
– Collaborate effectively with other departments, including deck officers and shore personnel.
– Communicate with the Chief Engineer and other members of the engineering team regarding the status of engine room operations.
– Report any issues or concerns to the Chief Engineer and assist in finding appropriate solutions.
– Maintain effective communication and teamwork within the engine room.

Requirements:
– Certificate of Competency (COC) as 2nd Engineer (NCV) issued by the relevant maritime authority.
– Relevant sea time experience as an engineer on non-conventional vessels.
– Sound knowledge of engine systems, propulsion systems, and associated equipment.
– Familiarity with maintenance and repair procedures for marine engines and equipment.
– Basic understanding of electrical systems and troubleshooting.
– Understanding of safety protocols and compliance with regulations.
– Effective communication and teamwork skills.
