Job Description
As a Wiper in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to assist in the maintenance and operation of machinery and equipment on board a vessel. You will work under the supervision of senior engineers to ensure the smooth operation and cleanliness of the engine room. Here is a detailed job description for the position of Wiper in the Engine section:
1. Cleaning and Maintenance:
– Perform cleaning and housekeeping duties in the engine room, including sweeping, mopping, and removing debris.
– Clean and maintain machinery components, such as filters, pumps, valves, and engine surfaces.
– Assist in the lubrication and greasing of equipment as directed by senior engineers.
– Support the maintenance team in routine inspections and preventive maintenance tasks.
2. Equipment Monitoring:
– Observe and report any abnormalities or malfunctions of machinery and equipment to senior engineers.
– Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to assess and maintain appropriate operating conditions.
– Assist in the routine checking of fluid levels, pressures, and temperatures.
3. Assistance in Operations:
– Assist senior engineers in the operation of machinery and equipment.
– Follow instructions and guidelines to ensure proper startup, shutdown, and operation of machinery.
– Participate in watchkeeping duties under the guidance of senior engineers.
– Help with the transfer of fuel, water, and other fluids as directed.
4. Safety and Compliance:
– Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working in the engine room.

Requirements:
– Previous experience as a Wiper or in a similar role in the maritime industry is preferred.
– Basic knowledge of engine room operations and maintenance practices.
