Job Description

As a Motorman in the Engine section, your primary responsibility is to assist in the maintenance, operation, and repair of various mechanical systems and equipment on board a vessel. You will work closely with the engineering team to ensure the smooth operation and reliability of the vessel’s machinery. Here is a detailed job description for the position of Motorman in the Engine section:

1. Maintenance and Repair:
– Assist in the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment, including engines, pumps, generators, compressors, and hydraulic systems.
– Conduct routine inspections to identify and report any mechanical issues or abnormalities.
– Perform preventive maintenance tasks to ensure optimal functioning and prolong the lifespan of machinery.
– Participate in the cleaning, lubrication, and greasing of equipment as required.

2. Operation and Monitoring:
– Operate and monitor machinery and equipment under the guidance of senior engineers.
– Ensure that machinery is running smoothly and within specified parameters.
– Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to assess and maintain appropriate operating conditions.
– Report any abnormalities or deviations from normal operation to senior engineers.

3. Assistance in Overhauling and Installations:
– Assist senior engineers in overhauling and repairing engines, pumps, and other machinery.
– Help with the installation and removal of equipment and components.
– Follow instructions and technical manuals to carry out tasks accurately and efficiently.
– Collaborate with other team members to complete tasks within designated timelines.

4. Safety and Compliance:
– Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working with machinery and equipment.
– Comply with environmental regulations regarding the handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
– Report any safety hazards or incidents to senior engineers or designated personnel.
– Participate in safety drills and training to ensure preparedness for emergency situations.

5. Documentation and Reporting:
– Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
– Document work performed, including parts used, measurements taken, and procedures followed.
– Prepare reports on machinery condition, maintenance activities, and recommendations for improvements.

6. Collaboration and Communication:
– Work effectively as part of the engineering team, cooperating with other crew members and departments as required.
– Communicate with senior engineers and other team members regarding maintenance tasks, equipment status, and repair requirements.
– Participate in team meetings and safety briefings.

Requirements:
– Previous experience as a Motorman or in a similar role in the maritime industry is preferred.
– Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment, including engines, pumps, and hydraulic systems.
– Familiarity with maintenance and repair techniques for machinery and equipment.
– Understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance standards in the maritime industry.
– Ability to follow instructions and technical manuals accurately.
– Basic mechanical aptitude and proficiency in using hand tools.
– Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
