Job Description
As an Ordinary Seaman (OS) in the Deck department of a cruise ship or vessel, you will play a vital role in supporting the deck operations and maintenance tasks. You will work under the guidance and supervision of senior deck officers and more experienced crew members. Here is a detailed job description for the position of OS in the Deck section:
1. Deck Operations Support:
– Assist in mooring, anchoring, and unmooring operations by handling ropes, cables, and lines.
– Participate in cargo handling activities, including loading, stowing, and securing cargo.
– Operate and maintain deck equipment under the guidance of more experienced crew members.
2. General Maintenance:
– Perform routine maintenance tasks on the deck, including cleaning, painting, and preservation of surfaces.
– Assist in the maintenance and repair of deck equipment, structures, and fittings.
– Carry out general vessel maintenance tasks, such as cleaning work areas and assisting with repairs.
3. Safety Awareness and Compliance:
– Follow safety procedures and regulations to ensure a safe working environment on the deck.
– Participate in safety drills and exercises, including fire drills and man overboard drills.
– Maintain a lookout for potential hazards and report any safety concerns to senior crew members.
4. Cargo Handling Assistance:
– Assist in the loading, unloading, and stowage of cargo, following proper procedures and safety measures.
– Ensure cargo is properly secured and distributed to maintain stability and safe operation of the vessel.
– Provide support to more experienced crew members during cargo operations.
5. Deck Maintenance Documentation:

Requirements:

– Basic knowledge of safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
