Job Description

As the Master NCV (Deck) on a non-conventional vessel, you will hold a senior position in the deck department and be responsible for the safe operation and management of the vessel. Your expertise in handling specialized vessels, strong leadership skills, and knowledge of non-conventional operations will ensure the smooth functioning of the ship. Here are the key responsibilities and requirements for this position:

1. Vessel Operations and Navigation:
– Assume command of the non-conventional vessel, overseeing all deck operations and navigation.
– Ensure compliance with applicable maritime regulations, safety standards, and company policies specific to non-conventional vessels.
– Plan and execute efficient routes and operations, considering vessel-specific capabilities, weather conditions, and operational requirements.
– Monitor the vessel’s position, course, and speed, making necessary adjustments to maintain safe and efficient operations.

2. Safety and Emergency Response:
– Promote and enforce a safety culture onboard, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and regulations.
– Conduct regular safety drills and training sessions for the crew to maintain readiness for emergencies and unique operational situations.
– Implement and maintain effective watchkeeping practices to prevent accidents and respond promptly to any emergencies or incidents.
– Coordinate with other departments to ensure effective emergency response and contingency plans specific to non-conventional vessel operations.

3. Crew Management and Leadership:
– Provide effective leadership and supervision to the deck department, ensuring a cohesive and competent team.
– Assign duties and responsibilities to deck officers and crew, delegating tasks based on their qualifications and expertise.
– Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and support the professional development of the deck department personnel.
– Foster a positive work environment, promoting teamwork, communication, and a high standard of professionalism.

4. Communication and Documentation:
– Maintain clear and accurate communication with the shore-based management, port authorities, and other vessels.
– Document and maintain ship logs, including voyage records, operational reports, and incident reports specific to non-conventional vessel operations.
– Coordinate with the ship’s administration department to ensure compliance with legal and administrative requirements.

5. Compliance and Specialized Operations:
– Ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines specific to non-conventional vessel operations, such as offshore support vessels, research vessels, or other specialized vessels.
– Stay updated with industry developments, best practices, and regulatory changes related to non-conventional vessel operations.
– Familiarize yourself with the unique systems, equipment, and operational procedures of the specific non-conventional vessel you are assigned to.
– Coordinate with the technical department to ensure the proper maintenance and functionality of specialized equipment onboard.

Requirements:
– Valid Master Mariner Certificate issued by a recognized maritime authority.
– Extensive experience as a deck officer, including significant time in a leadership role on non-conventional vessels.
– In-depth knowledge of maritime regulations, safety practices, and operational procedures specific to non-conventional vessels.
– Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of specialized systems and equipment onboard non-conventional vessels.
– Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, especially in unique operational situations.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with crew members, shore-based personnel, and other stakeholders.
– Ability to remain calm and composed in emergencies and make quick, sound judgments.
– Strong leadership and management abilities to motivate and lead a diverse team in non-conventional vessel operations.
– Flexibility to work in a dynamic and demanding environment, including extended periods at sea and irregular working hours.
