Job Description

As the 4th Engineer in the Engine section, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Chief Engineer, 2nd Engineer, and 3rd Engineer in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessel’s engine room and machinery. You will be responsible for carrying out assigned tasks and assisting in the smooth functioning of the engine room. Here is a detailed job description for the position of 4th Engineer in the Engine section:

1. Operation and Maintenance:
– Assist in the operation, monitoring, and control of the vessel’s propulsion and auxiliary systems.
– Carry out routine checks on engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and other machinery.
– Perform scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of equipment.

2. Repairs and Troubleshooting:
– Assist in troubleshooting and rectifying mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues within the engine room.
– Participate in repairs, overhauls, and replacements of components and systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
– Collaborate with the engineering team to address maintenance and repair requirements.

3. Watchkeeping:
– Perform watchkeeping duties in the engine room, ensuring the continuous monitoring and control of machinery.
– Keep accurate logs, records, and reports related to engine room operations and activities.
– Follow standard operating procedures and emergency response protocols during watchkeeping duties.

4. Safety and Compliance:
– Comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies related to engine room operations.
– Participate in safety drills, inspections, and audits to maintain a safe working environment.
– Identify and report potential hazards or safety concerns to the senior engineering officers.

5. Documentation and Reporting:
– Maintain accurate records of machinery performance, maintenance activities, and spare parts inventory.
– Assist in preparing reports on maintenance and repair work, fuel consumption, and equipment condition.
– Update technical documentation, drawings, and manuals to reflect modifications or upgrades.

6. Training and Development:
– Seek opportunities to enhance technical skills and knowledge through training and development programs.
– Learn from senior engineering officers and actively participate in knowledge sharing within the team.
– Stay updated with the latest technological advancements, regulations, and industry best practices.

7. Collaboration and Communication:
– Collaborate with other departments, such as deck officers and catering, to ensure smooth vessel operations.
– Communicate effectively with the engineering team, superiors, and external stakeholders on technical matters.
– Foster a positive working environment and maintain effective teamwork within the engine room.

Requirements:
– Valid Officer of the Watch (OOW) Engineering Certificate as per STCW requirements.
– Relevant sea time experience as an engineer officer on vessels of similar size and type.
– Basic technical knowledge of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and related systems.
– Familiarity with engine room operations, maintenance practices, and relevant regulations.
– Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to assist in resolving technical issues.
– Proficiency in using engine room monitoring and control systems, as well as computerized maintenance management software.
– Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team and liaise with stakeholders.
